Swimming Sports

On Wednesday Arthur Street School had Swimming Sports at Moana Pool.
All of the children participated and showed their amazing skills they have learnt from their lessons.
The children enjoyed participating in a range of races and relays where they balanced ducks on bats, filled cups with water, ran through the water and swam as fast as they could to the adults on the other side of the pool. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who have helped Room 3 over the term to attend swimming each week and those who helped at our Swimming Sports, we really appreciate it.

Welcome to 2018!

Welcome to 2018!

It's a new year and all the children have settled well back into classroom programmes and routines! 
We have started this term learning about Mini-beasts, we have so far learnt about frogs, honeybees and butterflies. Each mini-beast we have looked at so far relates to our letter of the week.
We have been doing lots of reading, writing and art relating to our topic.

S.T.E.A.M with Room 4

S.T.E.A.M with Room 4

Room 3 and Room 4 have been busy learning planning, building and testing a range of creations in S.T.E.A.M this term. 
Below you can see our amazing children working together to plan, build and then test their boat to see if it will float or sink.

During S.T.E.A.M time the children get to work in groups where they work together to complete a challenge. There is a lot of skills involved in S.T.E.A.M such as teamwork, communication, perseverance, compromise and sharing.

Our children love taking part in S.T.E.A.M and challenging themselves!

Art in Room 3

Last week our letter of the week was Bb.

We created these awesome crayon and dye bee art pieces to go with our Bee Poem.

We hope you like them.


The children in Room 3 and Room 4 are enjoying working together during S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) time. Together in small groups they are able to plan, design and build a range of different things relating to our book for the week.

Last week we looked at 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus'. Children had to come up with a plan and design for a bus that the pigeon could drive. They had to draw their plan and label it with the materials they were going to use.

Welcome back to Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3 and a huge welcome to the new families and children to Room 3.
 It has been great getting to know you and your child over the last couple of weeks. The children have settled well back into classroom routines and programmes and we are enjoying learning together.

We have been learning about shapes in Room 3. Yesterday we went on a shape hunt around our school. In pairs we had to find and draw all the different shapes we could see. It was amazing how many different shapes we could see around our school, we were able to find 2D and 3D shapes.

Last Friday Arthur Street School had Cross Country. We walked up to Robin Hook Park and we had to run 1 lap of the field. Some of us were scared and nervous before the race but once we started it was fun. After the race we were tired, exhausted and hungry. We all participated and tried our best.

Term 2 Week 9

It has been a very busy week in Room 3! We've had S.T.E.A.M, Micro Squash and Science!

Our S.T.E.A.M challenge this week was to make a bed for Goldilocks. In groups we had to first make a plan of the bed we would make. Then we used this plan to make our bed. We had to test our beds to make sure they fitted Goldilocks. Check out our creations below:

We were lucky enough this week to have a Micro Squash court set up in the hall. We had a lot of fun every day this week practicing our squash skills. We learn't how to hold the racquet, hit the ball forehand and backhand.

On Friday we got a little messy in our science experiment. We used water, shaving foam and food colouring to look at the different density of liquids. We made predictions, completed the experiment and then wrote our observations and conclusions. We found out that water is a lot heavier than shaving foam, the shaving foam soaked up some of the food colouring and food colouring is heavier than shaving foam because it sunk to the bottom of the water. We are really enjoying taking part in our science experiments in Room 3.
